Glory to God in the highest

(I) THE ROYAL LINEAGE OF JESUS

Of the house and lineage of David ( Luke 2:4 )

1. Disregarded by Rome

2. Given only common recognition by others

(II) THE BIRTH OF BABY JESUS

“So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”
Luke 2:6-7

1. Harsh and unfavourable conditions

Born in a manger ( Luke 2:7 )

2. Solemn reality of poverty

Wrapped in swaddling clothes ( Luke 2:7 )

3. Unrecognised and rejected

No room in the inn ( Luke 2:7 )

(III) THE EXAMPLE OF THE ANGELS OF GOD

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” Luke 2:13-14

1. A multitude of the heavenly host

a) A mighty heavenly host

b) A majestic heavenly host

2. Significance of their song of their song of praise

a) Recognition of the glory of God

i) For who He is

ii) For what He has planned for mankind’s salvation

iii) For what Christ had come to do

b) Expression of giving glory to God

i) In the form of praise

ii) In the spirit of adoration and worship

c) In full appreciation of the ramification of God’s gift of Jesus

i) Peace with God

ii) Goodwill toward men

(IV) OUR CHALLENGE THIS CHRISTMAS

1. To recognize afresh the glorious Being of God

2. To rejoice with all our heart that He has given to us the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour

3. To renew our faith in the Lord and our love for Him
