THE DETERMINED PURPOSE AND FOREKNOWLEDGE OF GOD

(I) THE WONDERFUL LIFE OF JESUS (ACTS 2:22)

1. Jesus of Nazareth

2. Attested by God

a) By miracles

b) By wonders and signs

c) God was the One behind all that Jesus did

(II) THE CRUEL KILLING OF JESUS (ACTS 2:23b)

1. Taken by lawless hands

2. Crucified

3. Put to death

(III) THE SOVEREIGN WILL OF GOD (ACTS 2:23a)

1. By the determined purpose of God

2. By the foreknowledge of God

(IV) ANOTHER SOVEREIGN ACT OF GOD (ACTS 2:24)

1. God raised Jesus up from the dead

a) Loosed from the pains of death

b) Not possible for death to hold Jesus in its power

2. God raised Jesus to sit on a heavenly throne (Acts 2:30)

a) He is seated at the right hand of God ( Acts 2:33a )

b) He received the Promise of the Father ( Acts 2:33b )

3. Jesus poured out the Holy Spirit

a) On all who would believe in Him as Lord ( Acts 2:36 )

b) This gift of the Holy Spirit is available to all ( Acts 2:38-39 )

(V) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

1. To ask “What shall we do?” (Acts 2:37)

2. To apply what is necessary (Acts 2:38)

a) To repent

b) To have remission of sins through (baptism as a symbol)

c) To receive the Holy Spirit as God’s gift
