AS A MAN CARRIES HIS SON

(I) PRECIOUS PICTURES OF GOD

1. A God who goes before His people (Deuteronomy 1:30)

2. A God who fights for His people (Deuteronomy 1:30b)

3. A God who carries His people (Deuteronomy 1:31)

4. A God who shows His people the paths to take (Deuteronomy 1:33a)

5. A God who protects His people day and night (Deuteronomy 1:33b)

(II) PROBLEM OF UNBELIEF

“Yet, for all that, you did not believe the LORD your God” Deuteronomy 1:32

1. It expresses itself in rebellion (Deuteronomy 1:26)

2. It expresses itself in complaints (Deuteronomy 1:27)

3. It expresses itself in doubts about God (Deuteronomy 1:27)

4. It expresses itself in discouragement (Deuteronomy 1:28)

(III) PUNISHMENT OF UNBELIEF

1. Anger of the Lord (Deuteronomy 1:34a)

“And the LORD heard the sound of your words, and was angry…” Deuteronomy 1:34

2. Oath of the Lord

“Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see that good land of which I swore to give to your fathers” Deuteronomy 1:35

(IV) PROMISES TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE

1. Caleb

“Except Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him and his children I am giving the land on which he walked, because he wholly followed the LORD.” Deuteronomy 1:36

a) Caleb will enter the Promised Land

b) His children will inherit the land

2. Joshua

“Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he shall go in there. Encourage him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.” Deuteronomy 1:38

a) Joshua will enter the Promised Land

b) He will take up a special leadership role

c) He will help Israel inherit the Promised Land
