LIGHT HAS DAWNED

Text: Matthew 4

LIFE IN ANCIENT GALILEE

What was life like in Galilee, in the days of the Lord Jesus? The following text reveals life in ancient Galilee.

12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee. 

13 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, 

14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,

By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles:

16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,

And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death

Light has dawned.”

17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”     Matthew 4:12-17

  1. Features of life in ancient Galilee

a) Physically

i)  Life was normal

ii)  People were engaged in business

b) Spiritually

i)  Darkness existed

ii)  Death cast an eerie shadow on all

  1. The Presence of the Lord Jesus

a) He was like a great light that shone amidst the darkness

b) He proclaimed the mighty Gospel of God’s kingdom

A NEW LIFE WAS OFFERED

The Lord Jesus began to tell people that they can enter into God’s kingdom and therein find life. The entrance into God’s kingdom was through repentance from a life of sin! This same message of Life in the kingdom of God would be our Pulpit focus for the months of January and February 2025.
