AN EVERLASTING LOVE

Text: Jeremiah 31
3 March 2024

A GLORIOUS PROMISE GIVEN

Israel had fallen to the Assyrians and Judah to the Babylonians. The people had only themselves to blame for the disaster they experienced! But amidst all their problems, the LORD gave a wonderful promise to all the families of Israel.

“At the same time,” says the Lord, “I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people.”

Thus says the Lord:

“The people who survived the sword

Found grace in the wilderness—

Israel, when I went to give him rest.”

The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:

“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;

Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.     Jeremiah 31:1-3

  1. He will be their God
  1. They shall be His people
  1. What God showed to His people

a) His grace

b) Much-needed rest

WHY WOULD THE LORD RELATE IN THIS MANNER?

A powerfully moving reason was given! It was because of God’s everlasting love!

  1. God’s love had always been there
  1. From of old, God had revealed His love
  1. Once again, God declares His everlasting love for His people

THE NEED TO REFRESH OUR LOVE FOR GOD

Over time, the love that we have for the LORD becomes stale. It needs to be refreshed!

  1. Remember the LORD’s love
  1. Recall His lovingkindness shown
  1. Renew our love for the LORD!
