FATHER, GLORIFY YOUR NAME

GLORIFYING THE NAME OF GOD
Glorifying God was one of the chief aims of the Lord Jesus Christ. But fulfilment of this aim was not an easy thing to do.
27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.
28 Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.” John 12:27-28
- The Soul may be troubled
a) The thought of death may trouble the soul
b) The natural desire is to live
c) The thought of impending death often troubles a person
- Seeking God in prayer
a) The Lord Jesus faced the problem squarely
b) He spoke to God the Father candidly on this matter
i) He had come to earth with God’s purpose in mind
ii) That purpose was to lay down His life to save mankind
iii) He refused to give in to the troubled feelings that came
- Praying about glorifying God’s name
a) The Lord Jesus returned to His original purpose
b) He determined to fulfil what He came to do
c) He prayed that He might fulfil His commitment to glorify God’s name
- God answered immediately
a) He had glorified His name through the life of the Lord Jesus
b) He would glorify His name through His death
OUR CHALLENGE
Let us seek to emulate the Lord Jesus Christ in this matter.
- Let us seek to glorify God the Father
- Let us not flinch in our commitment
a) Let us glorify God in our life
b) Let us glorify God even when we face death!
