THE ANOINTING OF THE MESSIAH

THE PROMISE OF THE MESSIAH
This was wonderfully prophesied (Isaiah 7 and 9). The Messiah would bring:
- Light to the darkness
- Hope for the future
- Government that would bring stability
THE ANOINTING OF THE MESSIAH
How would the Messiah fulfil such huge tasks? This is explained in the following text.
1There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
2 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:1-2
- A humble description is given
a) He is a Branch
b) He will come from the roots of Jesse (the father of David)
- A great promise is also given
a) The Messiah would be wonderfully anointed
i) For life
ii) For ministry
b) He will be given the fulness of the Spirit of God
THE POWER OF GOD WOULD BE GIVEN
The power of the LORD would be given for the Messiah to succeed!
- Seven aspects of the Spirit of God were highlighted
a) The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him
b) The Spirit of wisdom
c) And understanding
d) The Spirit of counsel
e) And might
f) The Spirit of knowledge
g) And of the fear of the Lord
- These were seen in the Life and Ministry of the Lord Jesus
a) In His teachings
b) In His miracles
c) In His life
How we must celebrate the life of the Lord Jesus! May we exult in the Lord Jesus Christ!
