Text: Psalm 16

THE WONDROUS BLESSINGS OF GOD

There are many blessings that God will give to the righteous. King David noted some of the blessings that he treasured greatly.

7 I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;

My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.

8 I have set the Lord always before me;

Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.     Psalm 16:7-8

  1. The Counsel of the LORD

There were a number of ways in which God gave counsel to David.

a) Through the ministry of prophets

i) Samuel

ii) Gad

iii) Nathan

b) Through the Scriptures

i) David knew the Scriptures

ii) He wrote about how wonderful the Scriptures are     (Psalm 19:7-11)

  1. Responding to the LORD’s Counsel

a) David thought much about God’s counsel

i) In meditation

ii) In prayer

b) His heart instructed him

i) The word of God was affirmed

ii) There was understanding and enlightenment

DAVID’S DETERMINATION

David determined what he would do as he pondered God’s Counsel given to him.

  1. He would always set God before him
  1. He would always have God at his right hand

OUR CHALLENGE

Let us be challenged to emulate the example of King David.

  1. The Counsel of the Lord

Let us take time to meditate on God’s word

  1. The Place of God in our life

Let us make sure that the Lord would always be close by our side!
