LOVE FOR THE LORD
Text: Psalm 18

A DECLARATION OF LOVE
The Psalmist David openly declared His love for the LORD. He also explained why he loved Him.
1 I will love You, O Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:1-2
- I will love You, O Lord
a) This was written unashamedly
b) It was a commitment to love the Lord determinedly
- Reasons for this love for the LORD
a) In his experience of the Lord’s blessings
i) Strength was found
ii) God was much more than a Giver of strength
b) In his relationship with God
i) God was his Rock
ii) His fortress
iii) His deliverer
iv) His shield
v) His horn of salvation
vi) His stronghold
It is certainly natural to see a genuine and deep love for the LORD!
RELATING TO GOD
What does it take to learn how to relate to God? David’s experiences in life saw him turning to the LORD.
- There must be a basic but genuine faith in God
- In the tough times of life
a) David related to God in prayer
b) He trusted even as he waited on God
c) He found that God really did answer his prayers
OUR CHALLENGE
It is important that we consider our relationship with God. Let us not stop at a basic relationship of faith in the LORD!
Let us be moved to cultivate our relationship with God. Let us look forward to the day when we too can say, “I will love You, O LORD.”
