SURROUNDED BY A GREAT CLOUD OF WITNESSES

A HALL OF FAITH-FAME
In the sporting world, a Hall of Fame is created for those who have achieved outstanding success. In Hebrews 11 we have a good number of people whose faith stood out. These are named in the spiritual Hall of Faith-Fame!
WHAT ARE THE FEATURES THAT MAKE THESE FAITH-HEROES STAND OUT?
A number of these features may be highlighted:
- A genuine faith
a) This is the starting point
b) We need to believe that God is and that He will bless those who seek Him
- A growing faith
a) No one began with an outstanding faith
b) But these heroes sought to grow their faith meaningfully
- A great faith
a) They managed to cultivate a great faith in God
b) They applied their faith in different ways:
i) In walking with God
ii) In trusting God
iii) In suffering for their faith in God
CAN WE CULTIVATE A GREAT FAITH TOO?
The short answer is Yes! What are some challenges we must consider:
- A desire to know God and to have faith in Him
a) This desire must come from the heart
b) The Lord will honour this desire
- A determination must follow:
a) To persevere
b) To ponder and pray
c) To make definite progress
A CLOUD OF WITNESSES
The many who have succeeded in their faith beckon us to press on in the cultivation of our faith. Let us find fresh encouragement from the cloud of witnesses that surround us! Let us succeed in our determination to cultivate our faith!
