BY FAITH

Text: Hebrews 11

THE PRINCIPLE OF FAITH

Faith is a principle that must be carefully understood and applied in the kingdom of God. This is clearly and emphatically taught in Hebrews 11.

  1. A list of people who lived “By Faith” is presented

a) Abel’s faith is seen in the offering he presented to God

b) Enoch’s faith is evidenced in the way he maintained his walk with God

c) Noah’s faith was seen in how he moved with godly fear

d) Abraham expressed his faith in God by leaving Haran for a land he had not seen

  1. The list above:

a) It is not exhaustive

b) It is only a sample of the many whose lives were marked by their Faith in the LORD

THE PRACTICE OF FAITH

The challenge is to actually live out our Faith in the LORD. Let us consider the Faith of Abel.

By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.     Hebrews 11:4

  1. Cain and Abel were brothers
  1. Both made offerings to God

a) Cain’s offering was rejected

b) But Abel’s offering was accepted

c) Why was Abel’s offering accepted?

  1. What were some of the reasons why God accepted his offering?

a) His offering stemmed from his Faith in God

b) His Faith resulted in his righteousness

c) God noted his “gifts” and saw his faith and life

d) Thus, Abel’s offering was accepted!

OUR CHALLENGE

Let us be challenged to examine our Faith in the Lord! Let us not take this Faith for granted!

  1. Is our Faith seen in the way we present our offerings to God?
  1. Is our Faith reflected in our life?
  1. Is God pleased with our faith, our righteousness and our gifts?
