THE LORD WILL ANSWER

Text: Joel 2:18-19
17 October 2021

A CALL TO FAST AND PRAY

The prophet Joel called upon the Lord’s people to fast and pray (Joel 1-2). The following text described how the Lord responded when His people sought Him in humble repentance.

18 Then the Lord will be zealous for His land,

And pity His people.

19 The Lord will answer and say to His people,

“Behold, I will send you grain and new wine and oil,

And you will be satisfied by them;

I will no longer make you a reproach among the nations.     Joel 2:18-19

THE RESPONSE OF THE LORD TO PRAYER

This is a deeply moving text to read and to ponder over prayerfully.

  1. Three responses from the Lord were noted

a) Then the Lordwill be zealous for His land

i) The Lord will respond with zeal

ii) He knows how the land had had adversely affected

iii) He would address the problems in the land

b) And pity His people

i) The word “pity” suggests “compassion”

ii) The Lord feels deeply for His people’s problems

iii) He will respond favourably to their needs

c) The Lordwill answer and say to His people

i) God will answer the prayers of His people

ii) He would speak to His people too

2. The Words of God to His people

There were three promises He made:

a) “Behold, I will send you grain and new wine and oil”

i) God will provide

ii) He would provide what was needed in the land

(“grain, new wine and oil”)

b) “And you will be satisfied by them”

i) There will be sufficiency

ii) There will be satisfaction

c) “I will no longer make you a reproach among the nations”

i) No one would despise them anymore

ii) There would be new respect given

iii) God would meet all their needs

AN EXHORTATION TO SEEK THE LORD

Let us be encouraged to seek the Lord in prayer. God will hear and answer the prayers of those who seek Him humbly and diligently.
