OUR CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS

There are many aspects of Christmas that we may celebrate. The Apostle Peter highlighted these thoughts:

Whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you     1 Peter 1:8-10

  1. One glorious aspect of Christmas has to do with our Salvation

a) The prophets of old

i) They inquired

ii) They searched carefully

b) They wanted to learn about God’s plan of salvation

i) The salvation of our souls

ii) The salvation that comes from the grace of God

2. This Salvation was announced by the angels of God

a) To Joseph

i) “You shall call His name Jesus”

ii) “He will save His people from their sins”     Matthew 1:21

b) To the shepherds

“There is born to you this day, in the city of David, a Saviour who is Christ the Lord”     Luke 2:11

LOVE FOR THE SAVIOUR

It is perfectly right to respond appropriately in at least two ways:

  1. Love for the Saviour

a) We may not have physically seen the Saviour

b) But our heart can love the Lord Jesus as our Saviour

c) We can do this through believing (faith) in the Lord

  1. Rejoicing in our salvation

This joy is described as:

a) Inexpressible

b) Full of glory

Let us find a refreshed sense of love and joy this Christmas!
