I WILL NOT BE NEGLIGENT TO REMIND YOU

THE MINISTRY OF THE APOSTLE PAUL
The Apostle Peter wrote appreciatively of the writings of the Apostle Paul.
15 And consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,
16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. 2 Peter 3:15-16
- Regard for Paul
a) Peter regarded him as “Our beloved brother Paul” 2 Peter 3:15a
b) he acknowledged that he had been given wisdom 2 Peter 3:15b
- The Epistles of Paul
a) He had written some things which were “hard to understand”
b) “Untaught and unstable people”
i) They do not understand
ii) They twist the writings of Paul
iii) This would lead to their destruction
THE MINISTRY OF THE APOSTLE PETER
Peter did not try to compete with Paul. They were given different ministries! There was no need to see Paul as a rival apostle at all!
Peter was happy to just write a word of exhortation to his readers. He felt that his ministry of reminding people was valid and good!
12 For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.
13 Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you 2 Peter 1:12-13
- Not negligent
a) This speaks of diligence
b) It further speaks of faithfulness
- The readers of Peter’s Epistles
a) They were part of the Diaspora
(Believers who were scattered because of persecution)
b) They were established in their faith
3. Peter’s Focus
a) To remind his readers
b) To enable them to confirm their faith in the Lord
c) To stir up their faith
Let us be reminded indeed of all the Lord has blessed us with!
