THE WHOLE EARTH IS FULL OF HIS GLORY

Text: Isaiah 6

A SPECIAL GLIMPSE OF THE GLORY OF GOD

Isaiah was privileged to be given a glimpse of the glory of God. He had a vision of the LORD sitting on a heavenly throne. He also heard angels crying out:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;

The whole earth is full of His glory.”     Isaiah 6:3

  1. The words of the angels who attended the LORD

a) They proclaimed the holiness of the LORD of hosts

b) They further declared that the whole earth is full of His glory

  1. Why then can we not see the glory of the LORD?

a) Isaiah had not seen God’s glory before this manifestation

b) He might be serving as a prophet but he had not seen God’s glory before

c) That would certainly affect his ministry for the Lord

WHAT IS NEEDED TO SEE THE GLORY OF THE LORD?

Isaiah’s response to seeing the glory of God gives us a clue as to why we cannot easily see the glory of the LORD.

“Woe is me, for I am undone!

Because I am a man of unclean lips,

And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;

For my eyes have seen the King,

The Lord of hosts.”     Isaiah 6:5

  1. Sin and iniquity will hinder us greatly
  1. Confession is sorely needed
  1. The problem of sin must be addressed
  1. The prophet Isaiah realized just how terribly sinful he was before a perfectly holy God

THANK GOD FOR CLEANSING

The Lord sent an angel to symbolically show Isaiah that his sin problem had been dealt with effectively.

  1. An angel brought a live coal from heaven
  1. It was applied to the lips of Isaiah
  1. He had been cleansed

APPRECIATING THE GLORY OF THE LORD

Isaiah was now able to understand and appreciate the Lord fare better. He was now ready to be sent forth as a servant of the Lord.

This is what we need to seek as well. Let us seek cleansing from the Lord God. Let us desire and determine to serve the Lord with a cleansed heart and mind!
