THE PRINCIPLE OF TESTING

One of the principles God wanted ancient Israel to learn may be found in these texts.

There He made a statute and an ordinance for them,

And there He tested them and said,

“If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God

And do what is right in His sight,

Give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes,

I will put none of these diseases on you which

I have brought on the Egyptians.

For I am the LORD who heals you.”      Exodus 15:25-26

That I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.      Exodus 16:4

  1. What is the test?

a) To heed the voice of the LORD God

b) To do what is right in His sight

c) To give ear to His commandments

d) To keep all His statutes

e) To walk in His law

  1. The historical context

a) God’s provision of water

b) His provision of manna

THE CHALLENGE

The challenge then and now remains the same. We need to look at how we may “pass the tests.” How may we pass?

  1. Recognising the LORD as our God

a) With all His divine attributes

b) With all His glorious power

  1. Believing God

a) His power to provide

b) His commitment to us as a God who protects

c) His faithfulness in fulfilling all that He has promised

  1. Practising faith

a) Let us seek to believe that nothing is too hard for the Lord

b) Let us exercise our faith diligently in life and ministry

Let us pray humbly for grace to walk diligently with the Lord our God.
