HEAR MY PRAYER

Text: Psalm 4
18 September 2016

A PLEA TO GOD

The Psalmist David learned much about prayer through actual experience in prayer. He did not take for granted that God had to hear his prayers at all.

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!

                                    You have relieved me in my distress;

Have mercy on my, and hear my prayer.   Psalm 4:1

WHY WOULD GOD HEAR AND ANSWER OUR PRAYERS?

Let us ponder what the Psalmist David wrote in Psalm 4 to figure out the answer to this question.

  1. Because of who God is

a) He is our God

b) He is a God of righteousness

c) He is the God who imputes righteousness to us

  1. Because of His merciful nature

a) He is abundant in mercy

b) He will hear and answer because He is our God of great mercy

  1. Because of how God has heard and answered prayer in the past

b) He will yet hear and answer prayers

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GOD EXPECTS OF US

Does God expect us to do our part before He hears and answers prayer? The answer is “Yes.”

  1. God has set apart those who are godly Psalm 4:3

a) Thus we must seek to be godly

b) We should naturally desire to be godly

2. God does not want us to sin Psalm 4:4

a) We need to deal with our anger problems

b) We need to learn how to be still and meditate before the Lord

3. God wants us to trust fully in Him Psalm 4:5

a) He wants us to worship Him with sacrifices of righteousness

b) He wants us to be righteous in our life
