THE GLORY OF GOD REVEALED IN HIS MERCIES
Text: Psalm 6
10 July 2016
THERE ARE MANY ASPECTS OF GOD’S GLORY
The scope of the glory of God is truly limitless! It would be impossible to attempt to describe the manifold aspects of His glory!
THE OBVIOUS ASPECTS OF HIS GLORY
There are the obvious aspects of His glory. The following may be cited: –
- In His creation
- In His acts of divine deliverance
The glory of God becomes very obvious! There is no denying the glory of the Lord in these things!
THE LESS OBVIOUS FEATURES OF GOD’S GLORY
We have to beg for forgiveness when we speak of “the less obvious features of God’s glory.” Every feature of God’s glory should be obvious, but because of our sinfulness we do not know how to appreciate the glory of God as we should! Psalm 6 is an example of how we may appreciate the feature of the mercy of God as reflecting His glory.
THE ANGER OF GOD
God has every right to be angry with His servants when they sin. This was something that David readily admitted.
- There was God’s rebuke
- There was His anger
- There was His hot displeasure Psalm 6:1
PLEADING THE MERCY OF GOD
There was only one thing left for David to do when God was so angry with him.
Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak;
O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
My soul is greatly troubled;
But You, O LORD- how long?
Return, O LORD, deliver me!
Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake! Psalm 6:2-4
- Mercy beautifully expresses the glory of God
- Mercy evidences itself in the following: –
a. In God’s healing
b. In God’ deliverance
c. In God’s returning to the side of His servant
d. In God soothing and comforting a troubled heart and mind
Let us learn how to appreciate the glory of God in the “less obvious” blessings! May our eyes be opened to appreciate in a new way the glorious mercies of God!
