The Son Of Abraham

THE NAME OF ABRAHAM
The illustrious name of Abraham is associated with a number of things. Two may be cited.
1. The father of Israel
2. The father of faith
THE SON OF ABRAHAM
This term was used to describe the Lord Jesus Christ.
The genealogy of Jesus Christ,
The son of David, the son of Abraham. Matthew 1:1
How may we understand the phrase, “The Son of Abraham?”
1. It may be seen as a title
a) Jesus is a worthy Son of Abraham
b) He is a worthy Heir of Abraham
c) He is the Seed of Abraham
2. The significance of a title
a) It highlights His worth
b) Jesus certainly was worthy of this accolade
THE CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM
1. The Jews took great pride in being called “the children of Abraham” Matthew 3:9
a) Their presumption: –
i) They would be favoured by God automatically
ii) They are the heirs of the promises given by God to Abraham
b) John the Baptiser preached otherwise
i) The claimants must prove that they are worthy to be called children of Abraham
ii) Racial genealogy does not guarantee blessings
2. The Example of the Lord Jesus Christ
a) He came as the Perfect Example of what it means to be a Son of Abraham
b) His life was even greater than that of Abraham
i) His faith surpassed Abraham’s
ii) His life outshone Abraham’s too
iii) He would bring about the New Covenant
REJOICING IN THE LORD JESUS
Let us rejoice in the Lord Jesus Christ. He has enabled all who believe in Him to become the true children of Abraham! All genuine believers are the heirs of Abraham!
