THEREFORE YOU ARE MY WITNESSES

Text: Isaiah 43

THE CALL TO BE WITNESSES
The Lord Jesus called His disciples to be witnesses. These words were clearly and carefully captured in the following text.

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit
Has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me
In Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
And to the end of the earth.                                         Acts 1:8

  1. The promise of power for witnessing was given

    a) The Holy Spirit Himself will be given

    b) He will empower the individual to bear witness effectively

  2. The challenge to bear witness was clearly stated

    a) To bear witness is to give testimony of faith

    b) There is faith in the Person of the Lord Jesus

  3. The scope of witnessing was confidently declared too

    a) Jerusalem and Judea would be reached

    b) Samaria and the end of the world was in view too

    c) This was an amazing vision indeed!

ECHOING AN OLD CHALLENGE

What the Lord Jesus said echoed what was stated in the book of Isaiah.

You are my witnesses, says the LORD,
And My servant whom I have chosen,
That you may know and believe Me
And understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
Nor shall there be after Me.

I have declared and saved, I have proclaimed,
And there was no foreign God among you.
Therefore you are My witnesses, says the LORD,
That I am God.                                     Isaiah 43:10, 12

  1. The challenge

    a) To know God

    b) To believe

    c) To understand

  2. To be witnesses

    a) That He is the Lord

    b) That He saves

Let us seek to be deeply committed to being witnesses of the Lord our God! There are many who do not know and believe in Him yet!
