BY THEIR FRUITS YOU WILL KNOW THEM

Text: Matthew 7

A NEW PULPIT THEME

We have a new Pulpit Theme for the months of May-June 2015. This is drawn from the Book of Jeremiah.

“Yet I had planted you a noble vine,
A seed of highest quality.
How then have you turned before Me
Into the degenerate plant of an alien vine?     Jeremiah 2:21

  1. A strong statement from the Lord

    a) A seed of highest quality had been planted

    b) A noble vine was expected

  2. A solemn reality

    a) Ancient Israel had turned out poorly

    b) It had become a degenerate plant of an alien vine

A SOBERING WORD FROM THE LORD JESUS
The Lord Jesus had sobering words to say to Israel too.

You will know them by their fruits.
Do men gather grapes from thornbushes
Or figs from thistles?

Even so, every good tree bears good fruit,
But a bad tree bears bad fruit.

A good tree cannot bear bad fruit,
Nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down
And thrown into the fire.

Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

                                                                          Matthew 7:16-20

  1. A Good Tree

    a) It will bear good fruit

    b) It cannot bear bad fruit

  2. A Bad Tree

    a) It will bear bad fruit

    b) It cannot bear good fruit

    c) It will be cut down one day

    d) It will be thrown into the fire

  3. By their fruit

    a) Are we good trees?

    b) Are we bad trees?

Let us soberly check our life. May we prove to be good trees, bearing good fruits!
