The Holy Spirit Will Come Upon You

THE WONDER OF CHRISTMAS

1. A special focus: there is a wonder to be celebrated at Christmas.

a. As we read from Scriptures.
b. To be personally experienced.

2. Many have forgotten and lost sight of it.

WONDER FROM THE SIGN GIVEN

1. Signs and wonders very often accompany each other.

a. They display the works of God
b. They help us to appreciate who God is
i. Amazement
ii. Awe

2. A sign was offered by God

a. Given to King Ahaz but he rejected it   Isaiah 7:10-12
b. God still offered it anyway   Isaiah 7:13
i. A virgin would conceive and bear a Son
ii. His name shall be called Immanuel.

3. This sign from God came to pass   Luke 1:31-33

a. Mary was the virgin would conceive and bear a Son.
b. He will be no ordinary Child.

WONDER FROM THE POWER OF GOD DISPLAYED

1. The Spirit of God will come upon Mary.

a. Represents God.
b. Represents His power.

2. The power of God will overshadow Mary.

a. It will take no less than the power of God for a virgin birth to be made possible.
b. Mary will be specially cared for.

WONDER FROM THE WORD OF GOD FULFILLED

1. God’s Word given during Isaiah’s time was fulfilled.

2. God’s Word given to Mary was fulfilled – Jesus was born.

3. Nothing is impossible with God’s Word.

OUR RESPONSE

1. To not lose sight of the wonder of Christmas.

2. To be filled with a sense of awe of God at Christmas.

3. To celebrate this Christmas with a fresh sense of wonder.
