THEREFORE WE WILL WAIT FOR YOU

(I) THE CONTEXT OF GOD’S JUDGMENT – IMPENDING DOOM

1. Severe afflictions

a) Droughts and Famine ( Jeremiah 14:3-6 )

b) Sword ( Jeremiah 14:12, 16, 17-18 )

c) Pestilence ( Jeremiah 14:12,18 )

2. The final stages of the Lord’s judgments (Leviticus 26:23-26)

3. A situation where nothing could be done

(II) THE INTENSITY OF INTERCESSION

1. Pleading for the people (Jeremiah 14:7-9)

a) For God’s name sake

b) For the people called by His name

2. Still Pleading

a) Despite God telling Jeremiah not to pray ( Jeremiah 14:11 )

b) Despite God’s declaration not to hear prayers ( Jeremiah 14:11-12 )

3. Pleading with many tears (Jeremiah 14:17-18)

“Let my eyes flow with tears night and day, and let them not cease.” Jeremiah 14:17

4. Pleading on the basis of the Lord’s covenant (Jeremiah 14:20-22)

(III) THE TRUE IDEA OF WAITING UPON THE LORD

“Are You not He, O Lord our God? Therefore we will wait for You, since You have made all these.” Jeremiah 14:22

1. Waiting on God is not abandoned

2. Waiting with hope (Jeremiah 14:8)

3. Waiting with quiet humility

4. Waiting with a sense of realism

(IV) THE CHALLENGE TO STILL INTERCEDE AND WAIT ON THE LORD

“Therefore we will wait for You.” Jeremiah 14:22

1. With reference to God’s judgment

a) Loved ones who do not know the Lord

b) Friends

c) Others

2. With reference to ourselves

a) Learning to have strong identification for others

b) Learning to practise the true idea of waiting on God
