(II) THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HAVING WISDOM AS GOD’S PEOPLE

“This is your wisdom…” Deuteronomy 4:6

1. A matter of Life and death (Deuteronomy 4:1, 3-4)

a) God’s judgment

b) God’s preservation

It is not a futile thing for it is your life. (Cf. Deuteronomy 32:47 )

2. A matter of Greatness / Being outstanding / significance (Deuteronomy 4:6)

3. A matter of Bearing witness to others (Deuteronomy 4:6)

4. A matter of Nearness to God / Being blessed by God (Deuteronomy 4:7)

(III) THE APPROPRIATION OF WISDOM

“This is your wisdom and your understanding….” Deuteronomy 4:6

1. Understanding God’s word

a) Listening ( Deuteronomy 4:4 )

b) Being taught  ( Deuteronomy 4:3 )

2. Learning the fear of the Lord

“That they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth…” Deuteronomy 4:10

(IV) THE APPLICATION OF WISDOM

1. Practising the word of God

a) Purposefully doing God’s word

“That you should act according to them in the land which you go to possess.” Deuteronomy 4:5

b) Carefully observing God’s word

“Therefore be careful to observe them…” Deuteronomy 4:6

2. Diligently Taking heed to the word and ourselves   

“Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself lest you forget….” Deuteronomy 4:9, 15
