AS A MAN CARRIES HIS SON

(I) GOD’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL

1. As the Lord their God (Deuteronomy 1: 6, 10, 19, 20, 21)

2. As a King who fights for His people (Deuteronomy 1:30)

a) Destroying Sihon ( Deuteronomy 2:30-36 )

b) Destroying Og ( Deuteronomy 3:1-12 )

3. As a Father who carries His son (Deuteronomy 1:31)

a) Lovingly

b) Protectively

4. As a Divine Provider (Deuteronomy 2:7) ( Cf. Psalm 104)

a) No lack

b) Abundant blessings

5. As a God who remembers His promises

a) Moab to be spared

b) Ammon to be spared

c) These were descendants of Lot ( Deuteronomy 2:9, 19 )

(II) WHY DID GOD DO THESE THINGS?

1. Because of His promise to Abraham and the forefathers (Deuteronomy 7:18)

2. Because of His great love (Deuteronomy 7:8)

3. Because He is a faithful Covenant-keeping God (Deuteronomy 7:9)

(III) INAPPROPRIATE RESPONSE

1. Unbelief (Deuteronomy 1:32)

2. Presumption (Deuteronomy 1:41-46)

3. Forgetting God (Deuteronomy 8:11, 19)

4. Foolish pride (Deuteronomy 8:17)

(IV) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

1. Example of Caleb (Deuteronomy 1:36)

2. Example of Joshua (Deuteronomy 1:38)
