GODLY SORROW

(I) APPRECIATING THE MINISTRY GOD HAS GIVEN TO US

1. Glorious ministry of the Spirit

2. Sacred Ministry of the New Covenant

3. God’s involvement in ministry (Co-worker with us) (2 Corinthians 6:1)

(II) GUARDING THE MINISTRY GOD HAS GIVEN TO US

1. From sin (2 Corinthians 7:1)

2. From erring people who can hurt the ministry badly

(III) DEALING WITH PEOPLE WHO SIN AGAINST THE LORD

1. Holiness must be borne in mind

“Perfecting holiness in the fear of the Lord” 2 Corinthians 7:1

2. Boldness of heart and speech (2 Corinthians 7:4)

3. Reprimanding sinners

“Even though I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it” 2 Corinthians 7:8

(IV) UNDERSTANDING THE DOCTRINE OF “GODLY SORROW”

1. Nature of godly sorrow

“It produces repentance leading to salvation” 2 Corinthians 7:10a

2. Contrast: worldly sorrow

“The sorrow of the world produces death” 2 Corinthians 7:10b

3. Characteristics of true “godly sorrow”

a) Diligence produced

b) Clearing of yourselves

c) Indignation

d) Fear

e) Vehement desire

f) Zeal

g) Vindication

4. The same spirit of faith must evidence itself

a) In humility

b) In honesty

c) In holiness
