THE CLAIM OF JESUS

1. Jesus claimed to fulfil Scripture.

2. It was a very bold claim.

3. It was never heard of before.

a) No prophet has ever spoken in such a manner.
b) A reference to Isaiah 61:1-2.
c) Jesus is the Messiah that has come.

THE COURAGE OF JESUS

1. Jesus was not afraid to make His claim.

a) Some marveled
b) Other questioned
c) There was the problem of unbelief

2. Jesus was not afraid to address their unbelief.

a) He knew that they would ask him to prove Himself.
b) He knew that they would not accept Him.
i) Similar to days of Elijah
ii) Similar to days of Elisha
c) He knew how they would respond
i) They were filled with wrath
ii) They were threw Him out of his hometown
iii) They intended to murder Him

THE COMMITMENT OF JESUS

1. Jesus was preaching in the synagogues before going to Nazareth.

2. Jesus continued to teach in Capernaum after Nazareth.

3. Jesus was committed to fulfil His special ministry as Messiah.

4. God has given Jesus the fullness of His Spirit to help Him fulfil His special ministry.

OUR RESPONSE

1. To appreciate the example of the Lord Jesus

2. To be doers of the Word, and not hearers

a) With courage
b) With commitment
