UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATING THE CONCEPT OF THE UNIQUE SONSHIP OF THE LORD JESUS

“For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell…” Colossians 1:19

1. The concept of Sonship

“I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.’ ” Psalm 2:7

2. The confirmation of Sonship in obedience

“Suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’ ” Matthew 3:17

3. The continuation of Sonship in ministry

“Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased!…” Matthew 12:18

4. The consistency of Sonship to the end

“Behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!’ ” Matthew 17:5

HAVING A DEEPER APPRECIATION OF SOME ASPECTS OF THE FULLNESS THAT DWELLS IN HIM

1. The Lord’s reconciliation of all things to Himself

a) He will reconcile all things on earth together with heaven.
“And by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.” Colossians 1:20
b) He reconciles us to God
“And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now we are reconciled.” Colossians 1:21

2. The Lord’s presentation of us to God

“To present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight…” Colossians 1:22
a) Holy
b) Blameless
c) Above reproach

THE CHALLENGE TO CONTINUE IN THE LORD

“If indeed you continue in the faith…” Colossians 1:23

1. Continue in the faith

2. Continue in sanctification

3. Continue in service

4. Continue despite suffering
