THEY SOON FORGOT HIS WORKS

 

(I) THE SERIOUS PROBLEM OF FORGETTING GOD AND HIS WORKS

1. When people do not bother to remember God’s works (Psalm 106:7)

2. When people have transient memory of God’s work (Psalm 106:13)

3. When people do not remember their relationship with God (Psalm 106:21)


(II) THE SEVERE RESULTS OF FORGETTING GOD AND HIS WORKS

1. The Israelites complained and rebelled against God (Psalm 106:7)

2. They went after their own fleshly ways (Psalm 106:13)

3. They turned from God to worshipping idols (Psalm 106:19)

4. They were judged by the Lord

a) Spiritual leanness (Psalm 106:15)

b) Physical death (Psalm 106:26-27)


(III) THE PERSISTENT REASONS FOR PEOPLE FORGETTING GOD AND HIS WORKS

1. The problem of a shallow response (Psalm 106:12-14)

2. The problem of not seeing any significance in Biblical history (Psalm 106:22)


(IV) THE PERSONAL CHALLENGE TO ACTIVELY REMEMBER GOD AND HIS WORKS

1. Sparing no effort in remembering the works of God (Psalm 77:10-11)

2. Making time to meditate on the historical works of the Lord (Psalm 77:12)

3. Have great appreciation of God’s work

a) His ways

“Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary…” Psalm 77:13

“Your way was in the sea, Your path in the great waters, and your footsteps were not known. You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron ” Psalm 77:19-20

b) His strength

“You have declared Your strength among the peoples.” Psalm 77:14

c) His redemption

“You have with Your arm redeemed Your people…” Psalm 77:14
