(I) The Abuse Of The Name Of Jesus

1. Wrong understanding of the text and its context

2. Wrong application of the promise of the Lord Jesus

3. Ending with useless prayers

(II) The Promise Of The Lord Jesus

1. An important truth to note

“Most assuredly…” John 14:12

2. The promise to do greater works

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also…” John 14:12

3. The promise of greater works because Jesus goes to the Father

“…because I go to My Father.” John 14:12

a) It is His work

b) It is His death

(III) Praying In The Name Of Jesus

“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:13

1. A statement of possibility

“And whatever you ask in My name…” John 14:13

2. The basis in which our prayers are heard

a) By asking

b) By invoking the name of the Lord Jesus

c) By His role as High Priest

3. To goal of glorifying the Father

(IV) There Is Power In The Name Of Jesus

“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:14

1. To extend the disciples

2. To avail power in prayer

3. To move the disciples to a higher level
