INTRODUCTION

1. A wonderful Promise made by the Lord Jesus Christ

a) I have come that they may have life
b) And that they may have it more abundantly   (John 10:10)

2. New Pulpit Theme: “Life more abundantly”

A GRACIOUS INVITATION OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

1. To come to the Lord Jesus Christ

“Come to Me”   Matthew 11:28a

2. To whom was this Invitation given?

a) To anyone who is labouring
b) To anyone who feels heavy laden

3. Many of us feel we are heavily ladened with many problems!

A GRACIOUS PROMISE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

1. The promise of Rest

“And I will give you rest”   Matthew 11:28b

2. What is this “rest”

a) A pause
b) A break
c) Rest from feeling burdened
d) The Rest the Lord offers is wonderful

UNDERSTANDING HOW THIS REST MAY BE OBTAINED

1. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me   (Matthew 11:29a)

a) The challenge is to learn from the Lord
i) He will teach
ii) He will teach by example
b) He will teach by helping us to experience (Yoke)
i) To follow Him
ii) To serve God

2. For I am gentle and lowly in heart   (Matthew 11:29b)

a) No need for fear about learning
b) The Lord will teach us gently
c) He is humble and He will teach kindly

FINDING REST OF THE BEST KIND

1. There is physical Rest

a) Food
b) Sleep

2. There is mental Rest

a) No worries
b) Peace of heart and mind

3. There is Soul Rest

a) The best kind of Rest
b) The deepest kind
c) A Rest that goes to the Soul

WHAT THE PROMISED REST IS NOT

1. It is not:

a) Not a life of doing nothing
b) Not a life of laziness

2. What it is: The Rest involves bearing a Yoke that the Lord would give

a) A yoke is placed upon an animal
i) It is a light yoke
ii) It gets heavier
iii) But it would be something the animal can bear easily
b) The Lord’s yoke described
i) It is a yoke that is “easy”
ii) It is a burden that is “light”
c) It is only in labour that Rest is better appreciated!
i) Rest is sweet
ii) It is meaningful
iii) It is joyful

CONCLUSION

1. To find the True Rest

2. It is found in:

a) Learning
b) Following
c) Serving
d) Experiencing
