Your ears shall hear a word behind you

(I) THE FOLLY OF ISRAEL

1. Their rebellion (Isaiah 30:1a; 9)

2. Their counsel (Isaiah 30:1b)

3. Their plans (Isaiah 30:1c)

4. Their refusal to seek God for advice (Isaiah 30:2b)

5. Their rejection of the seers/prophets of God (Isaiah 30:10-11)

6. Their despising of God’s word (Isaiah 30:12)

(II) THE LONGSUFFERING OF GOD

1. In offering solution after solution

“…In returning and rest you shall be saved:In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” Isaiah 30:15

2. In waiting for Israel to make the right response

“Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you;And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you.For the LORD is a God of justice;Blessed are those who wait for Him.” Isaiah 30:18

a) God waits for man!

i) Graciousness of God

ii) Mercifulness of God

iii) Justice of God

iv) Exaltation of God

b) Man should wait upon God!

(III) BLESSINGS PROMISED TO THOSE WHO WAIT UPON GOD

1. Sensitivity to our cries

“…He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry;When He hears it, He will answer you.” Isaiah 30:19

2. Availability of teachers amidst severe trials and tribulations

“And though the LORD gives you The bread of adversity and the water of affliction,Yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore,But your eyes shall see your teachers.Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,‘This is the way, walk in it,’Whenever you turn to the right handOr whenever you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:20-21

b) Their good and competent advice
