(I) BIODATA: JOHN AND BETTY STAM

1. John Cornelius Stam (1907-1934)

2. Elizabeth Alden Scott Stam (1906- 1934)

3. Both graduated from Moody Bible Institute

4. Both decided (individually and independently to serve the Lord)

5. They served in China Inland Mission

6. They were married after one year in the Missions field- in China

7. They had a baby daughter (Helen)

8. Both missionaries were killed by communist soldiers on 8 December 2010

(II) CAPTURED BY COMMUNIST SOLDIERS

1. Personal belongings robbed

2. Sent to jail

3. Sentenced to death by the tribunal of soldiers

4. John and Betty Stam died (27 and 28 years old respectively)

5. Baby Helen survived

a) She could have died

b) A villager was hacked to death in exchange of her life

(III) THE INFLUENCES IN THE LIVES OF JOHN AND BETTY STAM

1. Their family- in particular their parents

2. Their seminary training

3. Their personal faith and life

4. John and Betty brought much encouragement to each other

(IV) THE CHALLENGE TODAY

1. The possession of the kind of faith John and Betty Stam evidenced

2. The courage and ability to live for Christ

3. Taking the Word of God seriously enough to apply it in actual life
