The LORD Our Righteousness

THE MEANING OF THE TITLE “THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS”

1. Hebrew : Adonai Tsidkenu

2. References

a. Name: It is a reference to the Lord    (Jeremiah 23:5, 6)
b. Results : It is by this name that Jerusalem will be blessed    (Jeremiah 33:16)

3. Meaning

a. The Lord God is the source of our righteousness
b. The Lord Jesus is the righteous King by which righteousness will come to the earth.
c. By the Lord’s name, Judah will be saved and will dwell in safety

THE PROPHETIC WORD CONCERNING THE LORD JESUS AS “THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS”

1. The Lord is the Branch of righteousness   (Jeremiah 23:15)

a. A humble title with reference to the Lord Jesus
b. A messianic title

2. The Lord as the Messianic King of righteousness   (Jeremiah 23:16, 33)

“A King shall reign and prosper and execute judgement and righteousness in the earth.”    Jeremiah 23:5
“He shall execute judgment and righteousness on the earth…”    Jeremiah 33:15
a. Righteous rule
b. Righteous upholding of justice

3. There will be no end to His throne    (Jeremiah 33:17-18)

a. Never lack a man to sit on the throne
b. Never lack a priest or Levite to offer burnt offerings before the Lord

THE PERSONAL APPRECIATION OF THE LORD’S PROMISE OF BLESSINGS

1. Everything derived from “THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS”

a. From the Lord and His righteous rule, we derive everything
b. Our righteousness from the Lord
i. Imputed righteousness   (Romans 3-4)
ii. Personal righteousness   (Romans 6-8)

2. The future Restoration of Israel –All blessings from the Lord    (Jeremiah 33:6-12)

a. Revelation of abundance of peace and truth
b. Cleansing and pardoning of our iniquity
c. A name of joy, praise and honour
d. Provision of goodness and prosperity
e. The voice of praise would be heard

3. The permanence of the blessings of the New Covenant    (Jeremiah 33:19-26

a. Tied in to the establishing of day and night.
b. God’s people despised no more

APPROPRIATES RESPONSE TO THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS

1. Calling on the Lord    (Jeremiah 33:3)

b. Showing us great and mighty things – His righteousness
