SUNDAY MESSAGE FOR BILINGUAL BRETHREN

Title: Not Fear but Faith
Text: Mark 4:35 – 41

FEAR – A PROBLEM?

1. We all have different fears in life

2. Some of these fears are natural, and good

3. When does fear become a problem?

a. It becomes a deep part of who we are
b. It affects us badly
i. It can overcome us
ii. It can cripple and hurt us
iii. Ultimately, it can destroy us

THE STORY OF THE DISCIPLES BEING CAUGHT IN A STORM

1. The disciples were caught in a big storm one day (Mark 4:37)

a. The waves came onto the boat
b. The water started to fill the boat

2. A huge contrast was observed between Jesus and the disciples (Mark 4:38)

a. The disciples
i. They panicked
ii. They asked Jesus “do you not care we are perishing?”
b. Jesus
i. He was sleeping!
ii. He had to be woken up by the disciples

3. The problem of fear in the disciples

a. Fear overcame them
b. They were in a state of fear
c. Fear had become such a part of them

THE SOLUTION TO BEING FEARFUL – FAITH IN JESUS

1. Seen in the words of Jesus to the disciples, “do you still have no faith?”

2. Faith in Jesus

a. His Power and Authority
i. The disciples had seen him perform great miracles
ii. They had a first-hand witness of His great power at work
b. His Person
i. The disciples also saw how Jesus compassionately met the needs of the multitudes
ii. They should have known He cared deeply for the disciples and would not allow them to perish!

THE CHALLENGE TO “HAVE FAITH”

1. Develop faith

a. Hear the Word of God (Mark 4:20)
b. Receive well the Word of God (Mark 4:20)

2. Practice faith

3. Look forward to fruits that will come (2 Timothy 1:7)

a. Power
b. Love
c. Sound mind
