(I) SPIRIT OF DEEP SLEEP (Israel)
1. The prophets (Isaiah 29:10b)
2. The heads (the seers) (Isaiah 29:10c)
3. The nation (as a whole)
(II) UNABLE TO COMPREHEND THE WORD OF THE LORD
1. The Scriptures were like a sealed book (Isaiah 29:11)
2. The people were like illiterate people (Isaiah 29:12)
(III) WRONG THOUGHTS AND PRACTICES
1. Wrong thoughts of God (Isaiah 29:13)
2. Wrong practices of worship
3. The commandments of men
(IV) THE SOLEMN WORKS OF GOD’S HAND
1. Concerning the greatly regarded
a) The wise ( Isaiah 29:14a )
b) The understanding ( Isaiah 29:14b )
c) The ones who try and hide their counsel from God ( Isaiah 29:15a )
d) The defiant ( Isaiah 29:15b )
e) The scornful ( Isaiah 29:16, 20 )
They will perish!
2. Concerning those who are poorly regarded in society
a) The deaf ( Isaiah 29:18a )
b) The blind ( Isaiah 29:18b )
The humble ( Isaiah 29:19a )
c) The poor ( Isaiah 29:19b )
d) Those who erred ( Isaiah 29:24a )
e) Those who complained ( Isaiah 29:24b )
They will be honoured by the Lord as His children and they will be blessed! ( Isaiah 29:23 )
3. Appropriate Response
a) They will hallow God’s name ( Isaiah 29:23b )
b) They will fear the Lord ( Isaiah 29:23c )
