“DO NOT FEAR THEM, FOR I HAVE DELIVERED THEM INTO YOUR HAND”

(I) THE PLEA FOR DELIVERANCE

1. The Gibeonites came to Joshua asked for help

2. Joshua was obligated to help the Gibeonites

a) He was deceived into thinking that the Gibeonites came from a faraway land (Joshua 9:1-13)

b) He made a covenant with them…to let them live (Joshua 9:14)

(II) THE PROMISE OF GOD’S DELIVERANCE

“Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you.” Joshua 10:8

1. Conquering our fears

2. Concept of God’s deliverance

3. Certainty of God’s deliverance…already seen as done

4. Confidence in knowing that no man…no army will stand in the way

(III) THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN GOD AND ISRAEL

1. Dynamic partnership between God and Israel

a) God will do as He promised

b) Israel had to do their part

2. God’s part

a) He routed them (Joshua 10:10)

b) He killed them (Joshua 10:10)

c) He chased them (Joshua 10:10)

d) He struck them (Joshua 10:10)

e) He cast down large hailstones (Joshua 10:11)

3. Israel’s part

a) Joshua responded by sending his mighty men of valor (Joshua 10:7)

b) They marched all night (Joshua 10:11)

c) They came upon them suddenly (Joshua 10:11)

4. Yet God’s part is significantly larger than our part

“There were more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.” Joshua 10:11

(IV) THE PRAYER FOR GOD’S WORK OF DELIVERANCE

1. The place of prayer

“Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel” Joshua 10:12

2. Praying for an incredible feat

“Sun, stand still over Gibeon; and Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” Joshua 10:12

(V) A PHENOMENAL ANSWER TO THE PRAYER OF JOSHUA

1. God did what Joshua asked for

a) A miracle of God

“So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the people had revenge upon their enemies.” Joshua 10:13

b) Unprecedented wonder

“So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day and there has been no day like that, before it or after it” Joshua 10:13, 14

c) He fought for Israel

“For the Lord fought for Israel.” Joshua 10:14

2. God’s answer to Joshua’s prayer

“That the Lord heeded the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel.” Joshua 10:14

a) For being a man of faith

b) For being a man of understanding

c) For being a man of courage

d) For being a man of prayer
