Hear… O Remnant

Text: Jeremiah 42:15

THE PROBLEM THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE FALL OF JERUSALEM

1. The Lack of knowledge

“For My people are foolish, they have not known Me
They are silly children, and they have no understanding.
They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge” Jeremiah 4:22

2. The Rejection of God’s laws

“Because they have not heeded My words, nor My Law,
But rejected it” Jeremiah 6:19

THE PUNISHMENT PRONOUNCED AND METED OUT AGAINST JUDAH

“And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these lands shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.” Jeremiah 25:11

1. The land to become desolate

2. The people will serve Babylon

THE PROMISE OF RESTORATION

“Thus says the LORD,
‘Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob’s tents,
And have mercy on his dwelling places” Jeremiah 30:18

1. One of many precious promises

2. Challenge to hold on to God’s promises in faith and hope

THE PROBLEM OF HYPOCRISY

“Then hear now the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah!
Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel…” Jeremiah 42:15

“The LORD has said concerning you, O remnant of Judah…” Jeremiah 42:19

“For you were hypocrites in your hearts when you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, ‘Pray for us to the LORD your God, and according to all that the LORD your God says, so declare to us and we will do it” Jeremiah 42:20

1. Problem of pretense

2. Problem of prior determination to give “selective obedience”

THE PROOF OF WISE FAITH IN THE LORD

“And this is what I commanded them, saying,
Obey My voice, and I will be Your God,
And you shall be My people.
And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you,
That it may be well with you.” Jeremiah 7:23

1. Hearing the commandments of God

2. Obeying the voice of God

3. Walking in the ways of God

4. Blessing of the Lord
