"My worshippers"

Text: Zephaniah 3:10

CORRUPTION OF WORSHIP

Israel’s worship system had been so badly compromised that the worship offered by the people in the days of the prophet Zephaniah was totally unacceptable! Zephaniah had to proclaim this word on worship!

“From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia
My worshippers,
The daughter of My dispersed ones,
Shall bring My offering.”
Zephaniah 3:10

1. “From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia”

a) Obviously beyond the land of Israel/Judah.
b) The mention of the land beyond the rivers of Ethiopia is not without significance!
c) The children of Israel were dispersed far and wide.
i) Some were exiled to Babylon.
ii) Others were sent to Ethiopia and beyond their shores.

2. “My worshippers”

a) God acknowledged them as His true worshippers.
b) He would accept their worship.

3. “The daughter of My dispersed ones”

a) Further identification was given.
b) These worshippers were called “the daughter of My dispersed ones”.
i) This would be the children of the next generation.
ii) They would be born in captivity.
iii) They would learn about true worship from their fathers (the exiled generation).

4. Some of the lessons they would learn:

a) They would never worship idols ever again.
b) They would return to the study of the Scriptures.
c) They would look forward to returning home to their homeland one day.
d) They would prepare their hearts for true worship.

5. “Shall bring My offering”

a) They will give significantly to the re-building of the Temple.
b) They will bring offerings of love, gratitude and a revived faith.

Thus, was described the kind of worshippers God would accept and receive and bless!
