"Let us continue to go and pray before the LORD"

Text: Zechariah 8:21

SEEKING THE LORD

Zechariah prophesied of the day when worshippers would seek the Lord faithfully and humbly.

“Thus says the LORD of hosts:
‘Peoples shall yet come,
Inhabitants of many cities;
The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying,
“Let us continue to go and pray before the LORD,
And seek the LORD of hosts.
I myself will go also.”‘”
Zechariah 8:20-21

1. “Thus says the LORD of hosts”

a) This word came directly from the LORD God.
b) It was a prophetic word.
i) “Peoples shall yet come”
Israel and Gentile nations would come and seek the LORD.
ii) “Inhabitants of many cities”
They were desirous of seeking the LORD.

2. Words of encouragement shared among those who were going to seek the LORD

a) They would exhort each other.
b) They would encourage each other.
i) To seek the LORD in prayer.
ii) To seek the LORD of hosts.
iii) To seek Him continually.
c) Personal commitment
i) The individual who spoke these words would personally fulfil them too.
ii) There was a strong personal commitment to seek the LORD.

GOD’S COMMANDMENT TO SEEK HIS FACE

The LORD God gave this word to King David on one occasion.

“When You said, ‘Seek My face,’
My heart said to You, ‘Your face, LORD, I will seek.'”
Psalm 27:8

This is what God commands and desires from all true believers.

2. Heartfelt Commitment

Let us emulate the example of King David in his determination to give heartfelt commitment in seeking God.
