"That fire may devour your cedars"

Text: Zechariah 11:1

THINGS COUNTRIES TAKE PRIDE IN

Each country takes pride in features that may be uniquely theirs. This is actually natural.

“Open your doors, O Lebanon,
That fire may devour your cedars.
Wail, O cypress, for the cedar has fallen,
Because the mighty trees are ruined.
Wail, O oaks of Bashan,
For the thick forest has come down.”
Zechariah 11:1-2

1. Lebanon

a) It boasted of having the stately cedar trees growing in their country.
i) The cedars adorned the temple in Jerusalem.
ii) They were used by the wealthy to beautify their homes.
b) The doors of Lebanon:
i) Lebanon was like a gateway into Israel.
ii) If Lebanon fell, Israel would be open to invaders.
c) “Fire may devour your cedars”
i) Fire was a symbol of judgment.
ii) Fire was also used in war time to destroy cities.

2. Bashan

a) This was formerly Amorite country.
b) It was captured by Israel and became its territory.
c) The mighty oaks were found abundantly here.

3. Ruin of the mighty trees
