"They shall return"

Text: Zechariah 10:9

REGATHERING OF ISRAEL

This was a prophecy of the future of Israel. It was a word that was meant to give great encouragement and hope.

“I will sow them among the peoples,
And they shall remember Me in far countries;
They shall live, together with their children,
And they shall return.”
Zechariah 10:9

1. An astonishing word from God

a) Scattering of Israel:
i) There was a time when God scattered His people.
ii) The Assyrians and the Babylonians scattered Israel far and wide.
b) Sowing Israel among the peoples:
i) Though scattered, God was sowing His people in foreign lands.
ii) They would prosper wherever they were scattered.
iii) They would become a good harvest.

2. “They shall remember Me in far countries”

a) Those who were scattered learned many life-changing lessons of faith.
b) They would remember the LORD in far off countries.
i) They would turn away from idolatry.
ii) They would turn back to God.
iii) They would remember the LORD their God and His covenant.

3. “They shall live, together with their children”

a) God would especially preserve them.
b) Both parents and children would have the special protection of God.

4. They shall return to their homeland

This was a promise that God would keep. He would ensure their safe return.
