Day 29

"Speak these things..."

Text: Titus 2:15

THE AUTHORITY OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

When Jesus ministered on earth, people could note the authority He possessed. Three aspects may be noted:-

1. Authority in the teaching of God’s word (Mark 1:22)

2. Authority over demons (Mark 1:34)

3. Authority over the elements (Luke 8:25)

AUTHORITY GIVEN TO THE APOSTLES

The Lord Jesus Christ delegated authority to His apostles on at least two occasions:-

1. The First Commission Matthew 10:1

2. The Great Commission Matthew 28:18-20

THE AUTHORITY OF THE APOSTLES

The apostle Paul in turn sent out servants of God based on apostolic authority. The following text highlights this.

“Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority.
Let no one despise you.”
Titus 2:15

1. The focus of this text is “authority”.

a) Titus must not be afraid of the people who will oppose him.
b) They will resort to all kinds of tactics to hamper his ministry.
c) They will even resort to belittling him by despising him.
i) Perhaps of his youth.
ii) Perhaps of his lack of experience.
iii) Perhaps because he was not as strong and steady as the apostle Paul.

2. A reminder to persevere in ministry

a) To speak these things
i) To teach people about salvation in Christ.
ii) To exhort all believers.
b) To rebuke
i) If necessary.
ii) With all authority from the Lord.
c) To find the courage to serve faithfully and courageously amidst much difficulties.
