"Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory..."
Text: Romans 9:4
PAUL’S PERSONAL VIEW OF ISRAEL 1
What was Paul’s personal view of Israel? The following statement would identify him as a patriot!
“Who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory,
the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God,
and the promises; of whom are the fathers and from whom,
according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all,
the eternally blessed God. Amen.”
What were some of the prominent features that belonged to Israel? Paul highlighted correctly the following:-
a) The adoption
i) Israel may indeed be described as “adopted” by the Lord.
ii) It was out of God’s grace that they became “the children of Israel”.
b) The glory
i) This glory came from the Lord.
ii) The glory surrounded Israel for 40 years in Moses’ era,
c) The covenants
d) The Giving of the Law
i) This was done at Sinai (Cf. Exodus 20),
ii) This was a very historic and defining moment for Israel.
These were some of the features of the glory of ancient Israel!
