"Hope does not disappoint..."

Text: Romans 5:5

HOPE IN GOD IS NEVER IN VAIN

How absolutely true it is to say that our hope in God is never in vain! Let us ponder what Paul has said about “hope” thus far.

1. Hope is essentially the other face of “faith” (Romans 5:2)

2. Hope involves the future and encompasses the thought of seeing the glory of God one day (Romans 5:2)

3. Hope brings great rejoicing to the heart (Romans 5:2)

4. Hope is able to “boast” (“glory”) even in tribulation (Romans 5:3)

5. Hope is closely related to other wonderful spiritual virtues (perseverance, character (Romans 5:4)

Following this line of thought, we cannot but fully agree that hope in God is never in vain!

HOPE AND THE LOVE OF GOD

Paul went on to tie in “hope” with the love of God! Let us ponder this deep and wonderful thought.

“Now hope does not disappoint,
because the love of God is poured out in our hearts
by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Romans 5:5

1. Hope does not disappoint

Our hope in God will never cause us to feel disappointed! This is a truth that all who have held fast to their faith in God would testify freely.

2. The Love of God

Our faith in God results in our being justified by God.

a) Our hope in God gives us a tremendous boost in our faith and life.
b) The love of God is another special gift from God to us.
c) God sent His love to us, to confirm that our hope in Him will never cause us to feel disappointed.
d) The Spirit of God, who was given to us, when we exercised faith in the Lord Jesus as Saviour, makes us experience the wonderful love of God.
