APPRECIATING THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD

What a glorious doctrine we have in the following text! Let us take time to appreciate this short but powerful statement on the subject of the righteousness of God.

“But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed,
being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,
even the righteousness of God, through faith in Christ Jesus,
to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;
Romans 3:21-22

1. The righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed

a) This truth is obtainable only through the revelation of God.
b) There is a “righteousness of God” that is “apart from the law”.

2. Being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets

a) The Law

This is a reference to the Law of Moses.

b) The Prophets

This is a reference to the Prophetic Writings.

Both attest the same thing- that there is “a righteousness of God apart from the law”.

3. Through faith in Christ Jesus

a) The Old Testament prophets foretold the coming of the Saviour (e.g Isaiah, Micah etc)
b) The New Testament confirms that this Saviour is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God!

4. There is no difference

a) Jews need to find faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour.
b) Gentiles also need to find faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour.
c) “To all and on all who believe”.

This is just another way of emphasizing an important truth! All must find faith in Jesus to obtain this “justification” (righteousness of God)!
