"As reminding you..."

Text: Romans 15:15

A GENTLE REMINDER

Paul must have taken some time to reflect on what he had written. This is well reflected in the following text.

“Nevertheless, brethren, I have written more boldly to you
on some points, as reminding you, because of the grace
given to me by God.”
Romans 15:15

1. “I have written more boldly”

a) The word “boldly” may be translated “freely”.
b) Some of these thoughts would include:-
i) Jewish and Gentile issues (Romans 9-11)
ii) Regard for the ruling authorities (Romans 13)
iii) Perspectives of “the weak” and “the strong” (Romans 14)

2. “As reminding you”

a) The things that Paul wrote were not “new” (to some, at least).
b) Nevertheless a gentle reminder was not out of place.

We are reminded of what the apostle Peter wrote concerning the matter of reminding his readers.

“For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always
of these things, though you know and are established in
the present truth. Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am
in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you.”
2 Peter 1:12-13

3. Because of the grace given to me by God

a) The doctrine of grace was always borne in mind consciously.
b) It was not just “doctrine” to the apostle Paul.
c) It was a very precious practice of consciousness.
d) It was applied to all he did in his ministry (including the ministry of writing his epistles).
