"It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles"

Text: Romans 14:21

A GREAT PIECE OF ADVICE

There would always be those who have strong minds. There would also always be those who have weaker minds. Paul gave a great word of advice to those who possess stronger minds.

“It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine
nor do anything by which your brother stumbles
or is offended or is made weak.”
Romans 14:21

1. It is good

Paul believed that his advice was sound and good! He urged his readers to give careful consideration to what he had to say!

2. Eating meat/ drinking wine

a) Eating or drinking is not the main issue.
b) It has already been established that all things are pure.
c) A believer may eat and drink anything he wishes.

3. Three considerations must be borne in mind:-

a) Stumbling a brother.
b) Offending a brother.
c) Weakening a brother.

OUR ACTIONS CAN HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES

This is a truth that must be given careful consideration! The ramifications are as follows:-

1. One must be very considerate of those who are weaker.

2. One must appreciate that lawful deeds can cause people to be hurt badly.

3. One must be prepared to make necessary sacrifices.

4. One must act out of a heart of love and compassion.

5. One must not allow personal convictions to hold sway if those can cause deep grief to weaker brethren.
