"He who exhorts, in exhortation..."

Text: Romans 12:8

GIFTS ASSOCIATED WITH CHURCH OFFICES

Some gifts are specifically identified, especially the one associated with office-bearers of the Church (Cf. Ephesians 4:12). With the calling to sacred office, the spiritual gifts are given to enhance ministry!

GIFTS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH SPECIFIC CHURCH OFFICES

Paul made a list of gifts that are not directly linked to any specific offices.

“He who exhorts, in exhortation;
he who gives, with liberality;
he who leads, with diligence;
he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.”
Romans 12:8

This short list of spiritual gifts must also be given due consideration!

a) A mature believer who has a strong and positive disposition may have this ministry of

exhortation

b) Exhortation is a gift that enables one to lift up the heart of brother who may be disheartened by life (Cf. Galatians 6:1-2)

2. He who gives

a) Some are more blessed with financial success
b) Those who are able to give substantially are urged to give liberally (Cf. 2 Corinthians 9)

3. He who leads

a) Leadership may or may not be fulfilled in a specific office.
b) He who leads must ever lead with a great sense of diligence.

4. He who shows mercy

a) This person is likely to be in a position of some authority.
b) He is urged to discharge his duties with cheerfulness.

God has given all His children one gift or another. Let us seek to utilize with a great sense of responsibility and joy.
