Post-Resurrection Manifestations
Text: John 21: 1- 2
POST-RESURRECTION MANIFESTATIONS
Jesus, after His resurrection manifested Himself from time to time to His Disciples.
“After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself: Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together.”
John 21:1-2
1. The Sea of Tiberias
a. This is the other name for the Sea of Galilee.
b. This was renamed in honour of Emperor Caesar Tiberius.
c. The city of Tiberias was founded by Herod Antipas.
d. Emperor Tiberius was the patron of Herod Antipas.
2. A small group of disciples
a. This was a group of 7 disciples.
b. It is likely that they were all from Galilee.
c. And that they were all fishermen by trade.
REASONS WHY JESUS DID NOT ALWAYS MANIFEST HIMSELF TO HIS DISCIPLES
The following are some possible reasons:
1. They were being tested.
a. Their faith needed to be tested.
b. How would they fare if they did not see their Saviour?
2. They had already had some encounters with the Risen Saviour.
a. All mentioned in this text had seen the Risen Saviour.
b. Their faith had taken a battering when Jesus died.
c. But that faith had been restored when they saw their Saviour resurrected from the dead.
d. What would they do with their restored faith?
3. This was a period of transition.
a. They had to get used to not seeing the Risen Saviour spending time with them as in the past.
b. They had to make the necessary adjustments.
c. They must learn how they can cope without the constant Presence of their Master.
